I bricked a Motorola HT1250 the other day, tried all of the solutions I could find online nothing worked, CPS could not connect to the radio, total dead end. The radio had a nice clean case so I de-stuffed it to salvage the case, once opened, I noticed a small, what appeared to be a lithium cell, what the heck, I cannot make things worse so I removed the silicone cover and removed the cell from it's holder. Set the radio aside for a while, reinserted the cell into it's holder and connected the radio to a programming cable. Digieffects Aged Film Serial Urzeala.

Ran CPS and was greeted with a message do I want to restore the radio to default. I did just that, after which it was un-bricked, reloaded my template into the radio and it works like new. Just thought I would pass this along for anyone else who has run into this problem. By the way if you work with these handhelds a lot there are a number of sellers on ebay who sell a de-stuffing tool, they are low priced and work very well allowing one to pull the knobs and pop the radio out of the case with no damage to either.

That little battery is the backup for the clock on the display, which I found doesn’t work well anyway. When I messed with Waris gear years ago it was very frustrating. Several times I had radios lock up with EEPRM error or go into bootstrap mode and no matter what I did couldn’t get them to work.

We have some of our over 4000 HT-1250's that are over 10 years old, so when they have not easily repairable problems (displays, volume control, freq switch cases, etc ) we just replace them. IMO they are the longest running model of radio Mot has produced. BTW we have gone to Icom since Mot no longer makes an analog only radio, and the XPR line has terrible battery life in analog.

I even modified one to work on the XTS line. I was always told that if you brick the radio (which I have done to my md380 before accidentally) Unplug the programming cable from the radio then plug it back in and force a codeplug into the radio. This can take a couple of tries but one of my friends has had success after forcing a codeplug 5 times. That how I bricked it, was loading changes to the radio and the serial port plug disconnected from the laptop, instead of waiting for it to time out I quickly plugged it back in and that was all she wrote.

Instead of failing out the display went to something like EPROM ERROR and the radio would no longer connect to CPS. A while back I has something similar happen and the radio defaulted back to 1 conventional channel. They're nice radios but can be a bit finicky when it comes to programming, more so when trying to go from trunking back to conventional. Yea if it disconnects then that is usually what causes the error. I meant that when the software writes to the radio and it stops then the radio will give you the error. I disconnected my radio and reconnected and forced the codeplug and it worked.

I was told that you should force the codeplug whenever something like that happens. If it ever happens again I will give that a try, my logic being, once a radio is bricked I can't make it much worse so anything is worth giving a try.
